Getting a bed ridden patient back on her legs walking is a huge satisfaction.
Ms Areshma had an unfortunate accident 6 years ago when she lost her right leg and her mother at a tender age of 18 years.
She became bed ridden and gained a lot of weight, crossed 150 kgs. Then she came to us all the way from Fiji islands.
She was not fit for any prosthetic limb because of her weight, and started developing bed sores.
We performed her bariatric surgery 6 months ago which was successful and she started losing weight significantly.
An intensive physiotherapy schedule was organised for her to get her leg muscles back in shape and strengthen them.
She lost 50 kgs, and finally a prosthetic limb could be attached to her right thigh (which had an above knee amputation).
It was a real pleasure to be with her when she walked, and shows the real commitment on the part of family and healthcare providers.
