Advancing Robotic Surgery Training

Another TR-400 Robotic Cadaver Course on ETEP Ventral Approach for Abdominal Wall Reconstruction successfully completed at Ramaiah Medical School, Bengaluru.

It was wonderful to have my dear friend Dr. Abhishek Katakwar join the course. 👏

These cadaveric workshops are among the best ways to teach the new extraperitoneal anatomy and the nuances of robotic surgery, especially using the dual console Xi system. The experience allows us to train surgeons in real-life anatomy while leveraging the precision of robotics.

Together, we continue to shape the future of abdominal wall reconstruction with knowledge, collaboration, and innovation. 💡🤝

16 -20 July 2025

A Special Visit to the Mecca of Robotic Surgery – IRCAD, Strasbourg 16–20 July 2025 | Global Meeting of Society of Robotic Surgery (SRS)

I was honoured to be invited as a faculty at the prestigious Global SRS Meeting at IRCAD, Strasbourg—a place that has trained thousands of surgeons from across the world, including India.

Delivered 5 impactful talks
Participated in 10 faculty commitments
Hands-on experience with 20+ robotic surgery systems

It was an enriching experience to collaborate closely with robotic surgery pioneers like Dr. Vipul Patel and Dr. Eduardo Parra Davila, and to interact with Prof. Jacques Marescaux, the visionary behind IRCAD.

A proud moment to witness a strong Indian presence and announce new collaborations between Indian surgical societies and SRS, aiming to advance robotic surgical education and research globally.

Looking ahead with hope and commitment to driving innovation, training, and excellence in robotic hernia and bariatric surgery.

Glad to share that we organised the world’s first cadaver lab with four different robotic systems (2 Intuitive, 1 SSI Mantra, 2 CMR Versius & 1 BORNS Simphoni) under one roof. Being organizing chairman of such a lab was an honor.
Six cadaver stations, 24 delegates, 12 faculty, 6 robotic systems. An amazing teaching experience, organised at Sharda University.
We had leading international faculty: Prof Matthew Walsh from Cleveland Clinic, Prof Ranjan Sudan from Duke University, Dr Yalini Vigneswaran from University of Chicago, Dr Adham Saad from University of South Florida, Dr Selvasekar from Royal College of Edinburgh, Dr TK Rajesh from UKand national experts together.
Thanks to Prof Subhash Khanna for his unwavering support. Kudos to hard work of Dr Dhananjay Pandey, Dr Shailesh Gupta, Dr Nirupama Gupta, Dr Ankur and Rohit Gandhare.

ARIS 2024 was a huge event with 571 surgeons from all over the country and abroad, participate, including 138 faculty and 433 delegates. We demonstrated two live Robotic cases: one Bariatric and another abdominal wall reconstruction.
Col HS Chahal, CEO (Cluster 2)of Max Healthcare inaugurated the meeting. We had a beautiful convocation ceremony for FARIS delegates, and full house sessions on GI & General Surgery, Urology, Gynaecology and Thoracic Surgery.
The event had the participation of leading international experts like Prof. Matthew Walsh (Chair of Surgery at Cleveland Clinic), Prof. Dr. Ranjan Sudan (Duke University), Prof. Charu Paranjape (Harvard Medical School), Prof. Rana Pullatt (University of South Carolina), Dr. Yalini Vigneswaran (University of Chicago), Dr. Adham Saad (University of South Florida) along with national leaders in robotic and laparoscopic surgery.

Thanks to immense contributions by Prof. Subhash Khanna (President ARIS), Dr Somashekhar SP (Treasurer), Dr Raj Palaniappan (Academic Director), founders and EC members.
Kudos to hard work of Dr Dhananjay Pandey, Dr Shailesh Gupta, Dr Shahiq Ahmed, Priyanka Aggarwal and Nikhil Rajput which made the event successful.

17 March 2024

Glad to train two batches of senior surgeons in techniques of Robotic Abdominal Wall Reconstruction (eTEP RS TAR) in the cadaver lab at Ramaiah Medical College, Bengaluru.
Senior faculty from AIIMS Jodhpur and Kolkata were the participants. Enjoyed the deliberations and the lab work.

29 May 2024

Was invited to Digestive Diseases Week 2024 as a faculty in Washington DC (the annual conference of SSAT).
It was an honour to be named as President of Society of Surgery for Alimentary Tract (India chapter).
Met leaders from across the globe including my mentor Prof. Ranjan Sudan, Prof. Matthew Walsh (Cleveland clinic, Ohio), Prof. Adham Saad (University of South Florida), Prof. Imran Hassan, Prof. Yalini Vigneswaran (University of Chicago), Prof. Eric Pauli as well as friends like Dr Madhusudan and Dr Shail. Along with many Indian seniors and teachers like Prof. Pawanindra Lal, Prof. Vikram Kate et al.
Invited to President’s dinner reception and had discussions about taking SSAT forward in India.

3 June 2024

Invited as Trainer in TR400 course for Robotic Abdominal wall reconstruction (eTEP RS TAR) at Ramaiah University, Bengaluru.
Two senior surgeons Dr Ramesh Aggarwala Sir and Dr Vivek Rahanoo were the participants.
It’s a wonderful facility to train the tips, tricks and anatomy in these complex procedures.

13 June 2024

Conducted another TR400 training on Robotic eTEP AWR technique at Ramaiah University cadaver lab in Bengaluru.

Senior surgeons from Hyderabad Dr. Lakshmi Kona and Dr. Partha Sarathy participated and all of us shared tips and tricks in Robotic AWR.

It’s a satisfying feeling to have started this course with Intuitive in Asia for the first time last year, and having trained so many surgeons in the cadaver lab.
